Someone looking for a nearby workshop, salon or specialist has practical questions: what do you offer, where do you work, when are you available and how can they contact you? A complete profile and a clear website help them decide. You do not need a name stuffed with search phrases or invented addresses. You need genuine information that stays accurate.

Check eligibility first

Google Business Profile is intended for eligible businesses interacting with customers in person, at a location or within a service area. An online-only activity does not become eligible merely by having a postal address. Read the rules for your situation before creating a profile. Do not use a virtual office or borrowed address to represent a presence your business does not have.

Use your real-world identity

Enter the name your business actually uses, the appropriate category, telephone number and website. Avoid adding neighbourhoods, services or superlatives that are not part of its name. If customers visit you, the address and hours must reflect that. If you travel to customers, configure the service area and address visibility according to the rules without claiming unrealistic coverage.

Make the website answer practical questions

Describe services in language customers understand, explain where you work and show how to request a quote or appointment. State what information is helpful before a conversation. A plumber could describe the jobs they handle, while a workshop could show examples of its own work. Do not publish customer photographs without permission or results you cannot substantiate.

Keep information consistent and current

Compare telephone numbers, addresses and hours on the website and profile. Update special hours before holidays or closures. A business shown as open that does not respond creates frustration even if its website looks excellent. Assign somebody to review details and access regularly. Keep ownership in a business-controlled account and give contractors only the access they need.

Build trust without ranking promises

Ask real customers for honest feedback without rewards conditional on positive reviews. Respond helpfully and move sensitive conversations into private channels. A complete profile does not guarantee first place in results, and a consultant cannot promise control over the algorithm. Measure whether people find accurate information and start relevant conversations, rather than focusing only on one search position.
